SHERMAN OAKS, Calif., -- For the first time in program history, the Notre Dame High School men’s athletic programs were named CIF Commissioner Cup Champions for the 2023-24 school year.
“I am unbelievably proud of the work that our student athletes and coaches did last year in order to win the Commissioners Cup,” said Athletic Director Alec Moss. “I always hope that our teams can be as respected off the field as they are on the field and we will continue to strive to be great in both of those areas each year moving forward.”
The Commissioners Cup winners are determined by a points system. The points are broken down by: Divisional Championship: 5 points, divisional runner up: 3 points, advancing to the semi-finals or a third-place finish: 2 point and for fourth place finish in a team place-finish sport: 1 point.
The Knights took first place out of hundreds of schools finishing with 19 points:
Basketball: 5
Tennis: 5
Lacrosse: 3
Golf: 3
Track and Field: 3
The Knights had a successful season across the board, while the men’s tennis team made program history with its first CIF-Southern Section Championship. Men’s Lacrosse also made program history, as the team had never made it past the first round of the CIF-SS Playoffs.
The men’s basketball team made another impressive run, while men’s golf and track and field had a strong showing in the playoffs.
Notre Dame Athletics is ready to continue the momentum into the 2024-25 school year.
